Journal Assignment 4

 

Write an imitation of one of the poems assigned this week. If you don’t like the poem, you can create a parody making fun it. Feel free to draw upon the work you’re doing with Spartanburg-area community service organizations.

 

Be sure that your poem is constructed with attention to

• the formal elements of the original poem (line length, rhyme, repetition of words or phrases),
• the style of language (any slang terms? Any overly formal terms? Any alliteration?),
• any memorable scenes described by the poem (is a particular place described? What details are used in the description?),
• the point of view of the original poem (who is speaking? What is the speaker’s attitude to the subject matter?)
